(Photo: Claus Schunk)Berlin/Pullach, February 8th, 2013 — At this year’s Fruit Logistica and within the framework of the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, the international logistics service provider for environmentally friendly transport of fruit and vegetables celebrated the 20th birthday of the Food Bank Berlin by inviting customers and fair attendees to donate for a chance to win a Wempe sponsored Rolex Submariner.
Sabine Werth, founder and chairwoman of the Berliner Tafel, picked the lucky winner to great applause of the excited crowd. Georg Marschall, Munich’s branch manager of Landgard, one of IFCO's biggest customers in Germany, generously returned his newly won watch to the Food Bank Berlin in order to support the food bank a second time through a resale of the watch, worth nearly € 7,000. Having already donated a remarkable amount of money by purchasing more than a dozen tickets, he added: “I dedicate this watch to all those who are not blessed with luck. May the money raised for the Food Bank Berlin enable the food bank to bring hope to people in need.”
IFCO concluded the successful event with a donation of € 20,000 in favour of the Food Bank Berlin. With all the money raised, the food bank aims to purchase an urgently needed refrigerated van to better deliver perishable food to citizens of Berlin in need.
“We are very glad to be able to support the Food Bank Berlin in their charitable work. So far, IFCO has donated approximately 10,000 environmentally friendly reusable plastic containers (RPCs) to the Food Bank Berlin for the transportation and storage of fresh food. In co-sponsoring refrigerated vans, we aim to enable efficient logistics processes to also take place in the charitable sector “, stated Karl Pohler, CEO IFCO Systems.
Thrilled and touched by the event, all guests enjoyed a relaxing rest of the evening with cool drinks and the music of three saxophones players.
IFCO helps to help. What a day!
