The international transport logistics provider sponsors two refrigerated vans for Münchner Tafel and provides the 100,000th green crate to food bank organizations around the world.
Munich/Pullach, Germany, May 13, 2013—By sponsoring two refrigerated vans for the Münchner Tafel (Munich food bank) as part of their WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO enables optimum transport of fresh produce. In addition, the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY program celebrated a special jubilee: the donation of the 100,000th RPC, IFCO's Reuseable Plastic Container.
Two urgently needed refrigerated vans and 250 additional RPCs were handed over to the Munich food bank during a celebration at the Munich central market. The logistics provider IFCO, which is known for its green crates for fruit and vegetables, significantly contributed to the vehicle purchase by donating a sum of € 20,000.
“The entire team of Münchner Tafel is very grateful for IFCO's support. The two refrigerated vans are a great help for Münchner Tafel. They make it easier for us to transport fresh food quickly, without disruption to the cold chain, and in optimum quality to our 18,000 food bank users. Combined with the donated green crates, they significantly ease our everyday work,“ explained Hannelore Kiethe, chairperson and co-founder of Münchner Tafel.
As part of their WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO is committed to financing refrigerated vans for food banks and, so far, has sponsored 36 vehicles. On an international level, food banks worldwide use 100,000 IFCO RPCs for delivering and storing the required food. These green crates are a hygienic and environmentally friendly alternative to cardboard one-way packaging and significantly help reduce disposal costs for the food banks.
Michael Meierhöfer, Vice President Central Region of IFCO, was impressed by the committed work of Münchner Tafel and promised further support: “Münchner Tafel is exemplary for the courage, responsibility, and dedication of food bank volunteers worldwide. It is a great pleasure for IFCO to support the food banks with our RPCs and sponsor these refrigerated vans for transporting fresh food. For this reason, WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY is an initiative that actively drives long-term partnerships. The 100,000 RPCs and 36 refrigerated vans are not the end, by far.”
