WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY supports food banks by co-sponsoring a refrigerated van and the donation of RPCs at the Tafel Federal Congress
Wiesbaden/Pullach, June 2014 – The Tafel Federal Congress, held once a year at annually changing locations, offers the German food banks perfect surroundings for an exchange with other food banks, volunteers, sponsors and friends. This year’s congress took place in Wiesbaden from June 5 – 7. More than 600 officials of the 919 food banks across Germany participated at the venerable buildings at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden and on Saturday outdoor at the Mauritiusplatz.
This year, IFCO supported within the scope of the initiative and the participation at the annual congress two food banks, Berlin and Wiesbaden. IFCO’s consignment of 520 ecologically friendly RPCs (Reusable Plastic Containers) will enable from now on the Wiesbadener Tafel to deliver, without loss of quality, tons of food to the ones in need and associated institutions. Moreover, the Berlin food bank received a refrigerated vehicle for delivering fresh food - IFCO co-sponsored the van by donating € 10,000 to guarantee a coverage of costs for maintenance and leasing.
Ruth Friedrich-Wurzel, chairwoman of the food bank Wiesbaden and Sabine Werth, founder and head of the Berliner Tafel, both received the donation on Friday, June 6. The van and 520 RPCs were officially handed over right in front of he famous Kurhaus in Wiesbaden. Jochen Brühl, chairman of the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. joined the handover as well as other representatives of the association and was more than happy to have two of the association’s food banks receiving donations by the long-term partner WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY.
Sabine Werth was once again delighted about IFCO’s proactive long-term support and help through the initiative WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY: “This is refrigerated van number 7 for the Berlin Tafel which has been co-sponsored by IFCO and the initiative WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY – we are more than grateful to have the initiative as a reliable partner who really cares about our requirements.”
Ruth Friedrich-Wurzel is pleased about the donation of the RPCs and quickly pointed out the advantages of the green crates in comparison with the cardboard packaging: “Using IFCO’s RPCs enables the Wiesbaden food bank to decisively increase the degree of efficiency at our logistical processes and reduces waste, we are looking forward to serving our customers with fresh food without having any issues at the transport! Thanks to IFCO for the quick, uncomplicated and free provision of more than 500 crates!”
“What we have started with the Berliner Tafel in 2009 has been internationally extended; we now have around 100 food banks worldwide in support of WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY. We’re very pleased that, through the initiative, IFCO can provide our Tafel partners a wide range of support. Hygiene and freshness are the key factor in fruit & vegetable logistics. It’s our job to guarantee this in each step of the logistical process for the Tafel, just as it is for our retail clients.“, added Jürgen Schuler, IFCO’s Sales representative.
